Power Plate® Adds Hi-Tech Workouts at Pilates in the PinesPosted by Ian Kullhem on Apr 26, 2013
Whether you want to get past an NFL defensive back or just look a little sexier in your sleeveless wedding gown, there’s a new exercise device that’s taking gyms around the world by storm.
The Power Plate® is an exercise machine born of space travel and perfected by a Dutch Olympic trainer to adapt the concept for conditioning elite athletes. The concept of whole body vibration training was originally developed to combat the muscle and bone loss experienced by Russian cosmonauts during extended stays in zero gravity. Guus van der Meer, a Dutch trainer, applied the idea to exercise equipment and the result was Power Plate Acceleration Training™, a revolutionary low-stress conditioning program that’s adaptable to a wide range of personal fitness goals.
Scientifically developed using Newton’s Second Law of Motion, Power Plate machines create instability in the body, forcing muscles to react reflexively several times per second. Unlike some equipment that simply tilts from side to side, the Power Plate vibrates mostly up and down with some left-right and front-to-back motion to improve balance and coordination. When combined with strength and conditioning exercises, Acceleration Training can provide a full-body workout including stretches, balance, core conditioning, strength training, and massage… all in under 30 minutes!
The Power Plate has swept into gyms and training facilities across the world. For their off-season conditioning program, the Denver Broncos have added 12 Power Plate Pro 5 machines to their Dove Valley facility. Pro sports teams, athletes, and image-conscious celebrities from Clint Eastwood and Sting to Elle MacPherson and Hillary Swank have literally jumped onto Power Plate as their workout of choice.
