Gyrotonic was designed by Julio Horvath in the early 90’s. His concept comes from the thought process of everything on earth spirals, atoms, modules. Gyrotonic explores all the different planes in witch to use or spines creating space in joints and elongating muscles . It is A very opening exploration of movement.

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® incorporates movement principles from various fitness regimens and focuses on stretching and strengthening muscles while simultaneously stimulating and strengthening connective tissues in and around the joints of the body. Excercises synchronized with corresponding breathing patterns, enhance aerobic and cardiovascular stimulation and promote neuromuscular rejuvenation.

GYROTONIC® creator Juliu Horvath danced principle roles with the Romanian State Opera, the New York City Opera tour company, as a guest at Radio City Music Hall and with the Houston Ballet. While with Houston, he ruptured his Achilles tendon ending his dancing career.

In 1977, he developed a system called "Yoga for Dancers," now called GYROKINESIS®. In the 1980s, he opened White Cloud Studio in New York where he teaches students on the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. Used in rehabilitation centers to dance studios, to sports and fitness facilities worldwide, the program results in strength gain, flexibility and coordination.
