"Pilates in the Pines is the epicenter for wellness and relaxation
as you build a strong and flexible body."

Must-Have Pilates Gear

Pilates in the Pines recommends this list of gear for a successful workout:

1. Mat – Although we have mats available, you are welcome to bring your own. Yoga mats are acceptable, but mats made specifically for Pilates are a bit thicker and therefore more comfortable for floor workouts.
2. Water Bottle – Keep hydrated even if you’re not feeling the need to guzzle water like you might in an aerobics class. Avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks that don’t have the same beneficial effects good old water will have on your body.
3. Clothing – This is a biggy. Choose clothing that:
    • Allows you to move freely and comfortably
    • Doesn’t expose you where you don’t want to be exposed
    • Is close to the body and not baggy so that your instructor can see your body alignment, guiding you to the best positions and poses.
4. Footwear – You don’t have to wear any kind of footwear in Pilates (just one of the many bonuses of this exercise form). But there are products out there that you might like. Footies with non-slip grip on the bottom keep feet warm but still allow you to perform the movements safely. And there are special shoes that are basically a thin sole with wrapping straps around the foot, for traction.

Gear you don’t need

Avoid wearing jewelry that can get in the way of the equipment and of your freedom of movement.

Turn your cell phone off at the door to beg the most benefit. Pilates in the Pines is a cell-phone-free studio, allowing you and our fellow students the peace to focus on their workouts and enjoy the calming effects of the studio.
