Doing Pilates makes you happy. It’s a fact! Research proves that regular exercise has a cumulative effect of creating happiness. Pilates helps bring back balance to your body and mind, conditions that net happiness. As sure as the movements of Pilates is the precursor to a healthier body, happiness is the precursor to success in life. Pilates. Balance + Happiness = Success.

Give Pilates a concerted effort and you’ll find that it’s an exercise method that offers your body different benefits than aerobic exercise. Pilates enables you to discover things about your body, mind and energy you didn’t know you were capable of. We frequently hear our students talk about feeling a palpable energy running through their bodies as they move in and out of positions. They walk taller and with more grace. More aware of their breathing, they feel calmer, even in tense situations. And they see positive changes in the lengthening of their bodies and strengthening and toning of their muscles without adding bulk. Their core is tight. Their balance is better. Their focus is better. They feel more at peace.

The origins of Pilates go back to pre-World War I? German-born Joseph Hubertus Pilates  developed a routine of exercises based on the study of yoga, Zen and ancient Greek and Roman physical regimens. While helping fellow internment camp members, he developed pulley systems that worked the core muscles of sick and rehabilitating patients. His followers had fewer health problems than those who didn’t use his exercise methods.

Eventually, Pilates developed more than 500 specific exercises using his innovative equipment, all designed to develop the body's muscles in balanced, uniform way. The practice of Pilates goes beyond yoga by strengthening muscles besides stretching and relaxing them. In Pilates, both mat and machine work can occur, depending on the method. The equipment simply serves to provide added resistance.

So don’t be intimidated by some of the more advanced Pilates moves. You’ll get to that point – when you’re ready. But first, in our beginner classes (we call them Pilates Reformer Classes!), we start gently and slowly, teaching you how to work with the equipment and with your own body. We explain breathing, control, relaxation, movement and balance in conjunction with Pilates. We guide you where you need it so that you get the most out of your experience. We want you to love doing Pilates as much as we do so that you can be the best you can be!

To help you get started, Pilates in the Pines is offering 10 Pilates Reformer Classes for only $200!
